ALLENTOWN, PA. — Registration for the 2012 St. Luke’s Half Marathon and 5K races, Sunday, April 29, 2012, is now available online at stlukeshalfmarathon.com. Registration opened October 1, 2011.
Registration is also available for the free 1.5-mile St. Luke’s Family Fun Walk on April 29 as well as the St. Luke’s Youth run for ages 3-14 on April 28.
With a record 3,207 finishers in 2011, the St. Luke’s Half Marathon is the largest single-day participatory athletic event in Lehigh Valley. All proceeds benefit youth running and fitness programs in the area. More than $30,000 was raised in 2011.
Runners are encouraged to register early. The 2011 St. Luke’s Lehigh Valley Half Marathon and 5K sold out in late January – more than three months before race day. Race organizers have capped the half marathon field at 4,000 entrants and the 5k at 650 entrants.
Runner amenities will include personalized bibs, hydration stations, more than a dozen live bands along the half marathon race route, a unique finisher’s medal, stadium finish, complimentary bus travel for spectators, extensive post-race lunch, shower facilities, and much more.
“It’s a great course through Allentown’s city parks. And we offer incredible value in terms of the amenities and entertainment. It is one of the spring’s premier races on the East Coast, attracting runners from nearly 40 states,” said Neal Novak, race director.
The entry fee for the half marathon is $50 between Oct. 1 and Oct. 31, $55 between Nov. 1 and Nov. 31, and $60 from Dec. 1 through sellout. The 5K entry fee is $30 until Oct. 31, $35 between Nov. 1 and Nov. 31, and $40 from Dec. 1 through sellout.
The St. Luke’s Half Marathon is produced by the Lehigh Valley Road Runners. It is one of the largest races in the country with an all-volunteer staff.
